To Live Is To Lead #InTheseTimes

I met a young man in church last Sunday. He wore this frustrated frown and looked really sad. I asked what the challenge was, he told me he had lost a scholarship opportunity to travel out of the country for his undergraduate studies.

How? He explained that although he was qualified, he delayed in submitting necessary applications and credentials till it closed. I felt sad for him.

The story sounded a bit like what I’ve been writing on lately, right? I narrated how I had missed some fine opportunities in my early years and even recently. But I picked lessons from them and moved on.

I told him that I have learned the hard way that opportunities don’t come always, and when they come, we must grab them without delay.
Since I know what I want to do with my life, I don’t need anyone to push me before I do it.
I must be responsible for myself. I need to take life seriously. If I don’t take my own life seriously, no one will.

But it all boils down to self management, self discipline and self leadership. I need to get my life together and be organized. If I don’t learn to lead myself, I can’t lead others. If I do not plan my life well, no one will. I am learning to lead my life in the most profitable way.

Leadership is an action. It is doing something towards your goal even when you don’t feel like it. Learning to lead yourself is the most important leadership skill you can learn.
There are days you feel so numb and lazy but you just have to keep showing up. Show up for yourself and for posterity’s sake.
“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” (Proverbs 22:29).

Learning the art of self-discipline and self-leadership aids us to take on duties without procrastination or excuses. We will then be able to rule in our various spaces.

Someone once said that life is about discovering who we are. Leading is about striving to become better than we are.
