Forget About The Past
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:18-19).
Your ability to recall memories is a blessing in many ways. For instance, if you made a huge investment mistake in the past, recalling that blunder would make you more careful with future financial investments. If you once failed an exam due to the negligence of your studies, your memory of that failure would prompt you to study hard when the next exam opportunity comes.
However, our heavenly Father paradoxically instructs us not to remember the past. Why?
The past year was filled with mayhem in many parts of the world. It started on a promising note but gradually slid into a prolonged period of halted activities. A small virus awoke many to the realization of the brevity of life, the importance of family and the necessity of loving one another.
From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic to countries going into lockdown, massive protests in different countries, and many other happenings, it was indeed a turbulent year.
For many, it was a year of financial losses. For some, it was an opportunity to learn innovative ways to make progress, both in business and in the faith.
Nevertheless, the Lord would not have us consider the things of old. He says, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth;…”.
We would not be able to see the “new thing” God has in store for us in the new year if we keep reminiscing on the downsides of the previous year. His glorious promise is to “make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert” for His children. How wonderful!
Rest assured, dear child of God. The Lord’s promise is ever sure and His faithfulness endures to every generation. As He has promised, so shall He do. Be expectant of greater blessings this year, “for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.” (Luke 12:32).
